Chase Sexton LL 2010_1 HILLSDALE, Mich., (Aug. 10, 2010) – The big news out of Hurricane Mills, Tenn., this past week was Cobra Motorcycles sweeping all of the 50cc titles at the 29th running of the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships, presented by AMSOIL, at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

But possibly the biggest news for Cobra as a company was the CX65’s first-ever 65cc overall podium at Loretta’s with Illinois’ Chase Sexton bringing home a 3rd place finish in the 7-11 Modified class, going 6th/3rd/5th.

“This is the first of many to come,” said Cobra President Sean Hilbert of what was also the first-ever podium finish as well for an American-made dirt bike in the 65 class at Loretta’s.

Sexton would go on to finish a solid 6th overall in the 65cc 10-11 stock class as well. And Missouri’s Michael Hicks (8th) and New Mexico’s Brandon Smith (10th) would also put the American-made Cobra CX65 in the 7-9 Stock top ten overall scoring.

On the world-famous Cobra 50cc bikes, the reigning king of all mini bikes – Cobra’s King 50 – swept the entire 7-8 AMA 2 class podium. Georgia’s Jackson Turpin would take the overall title with some consistently fast riding (3rd/4th/3rd), followed by third moto winner Parker Mashburn (Texas) in 2nd place overall and Maryland’s Jack Rogers in 3rd.

The AMA 2 class was not without drama as Cobra’s pre-race favorites, California’s Stilez Robertson and Missouri’s “Lightning” Lance Kobush both won motos – and both had troubles that would take them out of medal contention. Robertson, who went 1st/2nd in the first two motos (to Kobush’s win in the second moto), was poised to take the overall when he wrecked twice in the final moto and was only able to make it back to 11th in the third and deciding race.

In the 4-6 AMA 1 class Georgia’s Gage Linville was the (little) Man – sweeping all three motos for the overall title. Linville was joined on the podium by Nevada’s Robert Hailey in 2nd – and the two should have been joined by Ohio’s Vance Stiers, who placed 2nd/2nd in the first two AMA 1 motos. But Stiers ran into trouble on the start straightaway of moto three when he found himself at the bottom of a pile-up, ending his Loretta’s podium hopes for 2010.

“Again, congrats to all the Cobra racers and their families who qualified for 2010 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships. Cobra was proud to be there in full force with factory support and will continue to do so at all the major amateur nationals throughout the competition season,” added Hilbert. “Enjoy the rest of the summer and get after your schoolwork like you get after a motocross track. We’ll look forward to seeing you at the Mini Os in November.”

2010 Loretta Lynn’s Friday and Saturday Wrap

2010 50cc SR Podium (Turpin, Rogers, Mashburn) The championship run for the 7-8 51cc Stock class would come down to a test of survival on Friday morning. Lance Kobusch charged out to an early lead followed by Parker Mashburn, Stilez Robertson, and Jack Rogers. Stilez got gobbled up by some deep mud left over from the previous day’s rain and fell back several places. Lance, meanwhile, had some mechanical difficulties and fell back as well. The championship came down to whether or not Turpin could stay four places ahead of Stilez at the finish, and that was decided on lap five when Stilez got together with Grant Harlan in the Six Pack section of the course and both riders went down. Turpin rode a fast and steady race to finish on the podium and clinch the championship! Meanwhile, Mashburn and Rogers checked out and would finish 1-2. Other notable rides of the day belong to Levi Kitchen and Grant Doolittle finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Congratulations Jackson!

In the 4-6 51cc Stock class, the top spot would never be contested as Gage Linville pulled his third holeshot of the week and led every lap. Behind him, however, things got interesting right off the start. Second place contender, Vance Stiers, went down on the start, and a mishap by a flagger resulted in him restarting very slowly – he would eventually charge back to 18thGage Linville MP Cover place. Meanwhile, Cade Britt overcame a tough second moto to ride strong up front and finish second. That would secure fourth overall in the championship for him. Rounding out the podium was Robert Hailey III. Robert rode smart and steady all week – picking his way through the pack each moto after mid-pack starts – to secure second overall in the championship hunt. Gage wrapped up the week as a nearly uncontested national champion!  (image courtesy of Motoplayground magazine).

Chase Sexton, highest placing 10 year-old in both the 7-11 65cc mod class and the 10-11 65cc stock classes finished a strong fourth on Friday to wrap up a podium overall in the Mod class. This is a big milestone for Cobra as it represents our first podium at Loretta Lynn’s in a 65cc class…There will be more to come!

Aaden Vaezie & Brandon Smith LL 2010 Finally, the 65cc 7-9 stock class ran its final moto on Saturday morning and Cobra mounted Aaden Vaezie and Brandon Smith shot out of the gate and ran 2nd and 3rd for the first lap. Aaden went down on lap two and remounted toward the back of the pack. Meanwhile, Brandon, along with first and second place, sprinted away and gapped the rest of the field by nearly 20 seconds. On lap five, Brandon fell over the finish line double-double section and restarted in fourth where he would remain for the rest of the race. This secured tenth overall in the championship hunt for Brandon. Also finishing in the overall top ten was Michael Hicks who wound up eighth overall after putting in 12,16,12 moto finishes.

Great job guys!

We enjoyed close to 300 attendees throughout the night, and all the racers got a chance to pick up their commemorative tee-shirts and do some bench racing. Cobra kids lead Team USA to overall victory in France at 8th annual MX Master Kids

Missouri’s Austin Forkner on the Cobra CX65 and “Lightning” Lance Kobush on the King 50 both win overall titles. Meico Viettik from Estonia takes the ‘little guy’ title.

img_8151 HILLSDALE, Mich., (July 15, 2010) – American-made Cobra motorcycles were on center stage this past weekend at the mini cycle version of the Motocross Des Nations – the eighth annual MX Master Kids held at the Commercy circuit in Lorraine, France. And as they have in the past, Cobra racers stepped up in the field of nearly 600 racers and dominated both the 50cc and 65cc Senior classes with the Missouri tandem of Austin Forkner and “Lightning” Lance Kobush bridging home top honors on the Senior 65s 50s, respectively.

Beginning with Forkner, who piloted the revolutionary Cobra CARD CX65 big wheel in the 65cc Senior class, the Cobra factory racer won four-straight motos to take the overall victory. Kobush was equally impressive on his Cobra King 50, leading every lap of all four of his motos for the 50cc Senior class win.masterkids2403

“The MX Masters Kids is such an important race, really sets the foundation for which nations have the strongest up-and-coming motocross programs and, above all, is a heck of an educational experience for the kids that represent Team USA,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Cobra Motorcycles. “Congrats to Austin and Lance and the legions of kids at the event running Cobras for other countries. Everyone at Cobra is very proud of your efforts.”

On the podium in the 65cc Junior class – and just missing the top spot by a couple corners – was Cobra’s Michael Hicks. America’s Hicks led the final ‘winner-takes-all’ moto through the final lap and was unexpectedly passed when he ran into some lapped traffic, settling for 2nd place overall on his CX65. And just missing the podium (4th) in the 50cc Senior class was another Cobra-backed American, TJ Rios, who qualified in 2nd place and suffered a front flat tire in the final moto.

masterkids2499 Internationally, Cobra’s Meico Viettik (Estonia) won the (4-6) 50cc class while Belgium’s Florent Devalck made the podium (3rd) in the 7-8 50cc class on his King 50 with the UK’s Scott James (5th) and Charlie Burt (8th) also placing in the top ten. And in the 7-9 65cc class the UK’s Christopher Mills placed 9th on his CX65.

Next up for Cobra’s American racers is the July 26-31 Ponca City (Okla.) NMA Grand National MX Championships.
