2011 Cobra Fast Facts – Rear Brake Pedal

Fast Fact V1

Believe it or not, a lot of thought goes into something as simple as a brake pedal. Not only is the 2011 design lighter and better looking than previous versions, but we’ve put a lot of thought into features that only Dad (and sometimes Mom or Grandpa) will notice. For example, the pedal is shaped so that the oil drain is now easily accessible, and the brake return spring is much easier to install as well. We’ve also provided better clearance to the kick lever, and the whole unit tucks in nicely so it’s less prone to snagging in ruts or on rocks.

2011 Cobra Fast Facts – King and ECX50 Cylinder Improvements

Fast Fact V1

The cylinder is the heart of any two-stroke engine. Instead of poppet valves, the two stroke uses carefully crafted passageways to direct exhaust out of the engine and fresh intake mixture in. The shape and size of these passageways (or ports) is critical, and so for 2011, Cobra has decided to leave nothing to chance. Instead of relying on the relatively inaccurate process of casting to determine exhaust port timing, we are setting the timing using a very precise machine that we have developed in-house – no other company in the world has anything like it. The result is more power throughout the RPM range and more consistency from bike-to-bike.

In addition, the Cobra R&D crew also created a self-centering head insert that will ensure that the combustion chamber is always aligned with the piston crown. This not only makes assembly easier, it also allowed us to tighten up squish and increase compression ratio for improved bottom-end torque.

2011 Cobra Fast Facts – King & ECX50 Reed Block

Fast Fact V1 After over two years of R&D, Cobra is set to launch the 2011 King 50 and ECX50 with an all-new V-Force reed block. The Tassinari V-Force is unique because of its double reed valve system. Instead of two sets of reed petals, the V-force system utilizes four. This allows more overall flow area at high load and high RPM with less reed petal lift required. The result: More power with less reed flutter for smoother power delivery.

Chase Sexton Branson 2010 HILLSDALE, Mich., (Oct. 12 , 2010) – American-made Cobra Motorcycles’ Chase Sexton (Illinois) and Parker Mashburn (Texas) were the big winners at this past week’s 16th annual Branson USA National Motocross Championships, one of the country’s biggest races of the fall season, drawing a reported 1,100 amateur MX competitors to the banks of the James River in the southwestern corner of Missouri.

Sexton, aboard Cobra’s crate-to-podium CX65, was on fire in the 65cc 9-11 Modified and 65cc Open Through 11 classes, winning three out of four motos – including a Mod class sweep on his JMS / MX Tech prepped bike – and the all-important second moto in the all-star Open class to secure that overall victory. And Mashburn was equally impressive, racking up two overall championships on his EBR Cobra King 50 in the 50cc Senior PW classes (Stock 7-8 and Mod 7-8).Parker Mashburn Branson 2010

“It’s definitely cause for celebration at Cobra HQ anytime we can pull off a win versus the highly-funded foreign factory bikes,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Michigan-based Cobra Motorcycles. “Congrats to Chase, Parker and the rest of the Cobra kids that competed this past week at Branson. Hit the school books hard and we’ll see you in just over a month here at the Mini Os.”

On the JR50 bikes Cobra was led by Oklahoma’s Ramone Rusche, who won the Stock class and Missouri’s Brock Lassiter who won the Modified class. Ryan Smith (Okla.) also ran well, bringing home two 2nd place finishes in those classes. Other Cobra riders with standout performances at Branson include: Tennessee’s Kruz Sampson (2nd 6-9 Super Pee Wee, 3rd 7-8 50 Modified, 3rd 6-8 65 Modified, and 3rd 6-8 65 Stock), Missouri’s Michael Hicks (4th 9-11 65 Stock), Washington’s Ethan Mann (2nd 7-8 50 Stock) and his brother, Alex Mann (3rd 4-6 50 Modified).
