Little Yellow Cobras Run Wild Over Competition @ Mini O’s!

World’s most successful 50cc minicycles absolutely dominate 50cc classes at Gainsville
NORTH LIMA, Ohio, (Nov. 30, 2004) – With one of the most successful performances by any brand of bike ever at the Mini O’s at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainsville, Fla., Cobra Motorcycles ran away with all the prizes – sweeping all four 50cc class races in both the motocross and supercross divisions, while also capturing both 50cc Olympiad titles this past weekend.
In all, two different Cobra-mounted riders won the coveted Olympiad Championship trophy (overall MX/SX winners). They include: Max Tannenbaum (Lilburn, Ga.) and Connor Mitchell (Oregon City, Ore.). Also winning a division (7-8 50cc SX) was Tyler McSwain (Shelby, N.C).
Bottom line: Cobra swept every class and Cobra-mounted riders represented 75-percent of the top ten 50cc Olympiad finishers throughout the entire competition.
“We couldn’t be happier with our riders’ performances this past weekend in Florida,” said Sean Hilbert, president of Cobra Motorcycles. “Our current team members put up the numbers we figured they would and we were pleasantly surprised by the performances from several newcomers. All-in-all it was another weekend for the record books for Cobra.”
Some other notable top five performances from Cobra riders at the Gainesville Mini O’s included:
4-6 50cc Supercross Division
2nd Parker Fleming, Cobra, Quinlan, Texas
3rd Jared Jennings, Cobra, Port Jervis, N.Y.

Cobra Proves It’s King Of The Minicycles @ Loretta’s

McSwain1_crop After dominating Ponca City, Cobra riders show up in force at Loretta Lynn’s last week and captured championships in both the 4-6 & 7-8 50cc AMA classes.
ANAHEIM, Calif., (August 11, 2004) – The buzz at the AMA Air Nautiques National Amateur Championships last week was that American-made Cobra Motorcycles absolutely dominated the 50cc class at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch, taking all but one podium spot – including the overall championships in both the AMA 51cc 4-6 class and AMA 51cc 7-8 class. This marks Cobra’s tenth year at Loretta Lynn’s and its 17th and 18th National Championships during that period.
Cobra racers Blake Green (Corona, Calif.) and Tyler McSwain (Shelby, N.C.) won the titles, with Green going a perfect 1-1-1 in the three moto format, while McSwain’s only moto loss (1-1-2) en-route to his title came to fellow Cobra pilot Nick Gaines (Ring Gold, Ga.). Gaines would finish second overall in the 7-8 class, followed by KTM mounted Darren Walsh in third. Cobra racers would sweep the podium, and fourth spot for good measure, in the 4-6 class as Green was joined on the podium by Cobra mounted Jeremy Wilton (Eugene, Ore.) and Parker Fleming (Quinlan, Texas) – with Cobra rider Jesse Solheid (Hudson, Wisc.) coming in fourth at the Amateur National Championships.
“With all of the other factories ramping up their 50cc efforts in recent years, everybody at Cobra Motorcycles has had to work extra hard to insure that our bikes would again capture the National titles that have become synonymous with the Cobra mark,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Cobra Motorcycles. “Cobra would like to congratulate Blake Green and Tyler McSwain on their titles, along with all the other Cobra racers and their families who worked so hard to qualify for Loretta’s this year. Job well done, guys!”
Another interesting point is the geographical variance of the top Cobra riders, a direct testament to Cobra Motorcycles’ efforts to expand its dealership network across the United States. In all, Cobra qualified 43 racers from 16 states for Loretta’s, with riders from California, North Carolina, Georgia, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Colorado all scoring top ten finishes.
“We had champions representing both coasts (Calif. and N.C.) and podium finishers from Georgia, Oregon and Texas,” cited Hilbert. “We’re very pleased to see such a strong representation of Cobra racers from literally every corner of the United States.”
In addition to the aforementioned states, Cobra racers came to Loretta’s from New York, West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Illinois, Washington, Arizona and Delaware.
Cobra’s next big amateur event will be the Branson USA Motocross Championships in Branson, Mo. (Oct 14-17).

Cobra Scores An ‘A+’ On Latest Mini National Report Card

Cobra Motorcycles dominate at Lake Whitney, Mosier Valley and Las Vegas!
ANAHEIM, Calif., (May 3, 2004) – The future stars of motocross, representing Cobra Motorcycles, have put up some terrific numbers in recent weeks, with dominant performances at the Lake Whitney Spring Classic Championship and The GNC Finals (Mosier Valley) before nearly sweeping the World Mini Grand Prix (Las Vegas) by capturing eight out of the top ten spots in the junior 50cc stock class and seven out of the top ten spots in the junior 50cc modified class.
The big winner for Cobra at the recent Vegas race came from SoCal’s hotbed of motocross, Corona. Six-year-old Blake Green won both the junior stock and modified classes at Vegas, his best effort of the year thus far.
"We had a lot of fun as a family going and racing," said Blake. "My Cobra ran great and I was happy that all the hard work I put in paid off!"
At Mosier Valley, Cobra swept an amazing top four spots (including seven out of ten) in the Teeny Mini (4-6) stock class. On the podium for Team Cobra was Connor Mitchell (Oregon City, Ore.) in first, Parker Fleming (Quinlan, Texas) in second and Jay Dearing (Mansfield, Texas) in third. Close by in fourth place was the Cobra-mounted Chase Marquier from Newcastle, Okla.
Again in the Teeny Mini (4-6) Modified class it was Team Cobra sweeping the top four spots, with young Conner Mitchell again taking first. The all Cobra yellow podium was rounded out by Fleming and Dearing, with Macon’s (Ga.) Coleman Martin coming in fourth.
In all, Cobra dominated both 4-6 classes by taking the top six spots in the modified and top seven spots in the stock. An amazing feat to say the least for the All-American made Cobra Motorcycles!
“These races really allow us to get a good idea of how our season’s going to go”, said Bud Maimone, founder of Cobra Motorcycles. Kids like Tyler McSwain and Dalton Myers, who both have earned national titles riding Cobras, were very impressive, and the new crop of kids like Thomas Covington, Blake Green, and Conner Mitchell, showed that they represent the future of the sport, and hopefully the future of Cobra as well.”
The first major Mini National of the season, Lake Whitney, saw Cobra get out of the 2004 gate on fire as well, with Cobra Motorcycle mounted kids blazing to some spectacular results. Again it was Conner Mitchell, taking first in the 51cc stock (4-6) class. Mitchell was joined on the podium by Coleman Martin, with Youngsville’s (La.) Hunter Hilton not that far off in fourth place after going 2/8.
In the 51cc Open Stock (4-8), Cobra’s most decorated rider – Tyler McSwain – blazed to a 1/1 finish. McSwain, Shelby (N.C.), was followed by another Cobra pilot folks are calling “The next big thing,” defending AMA Amateur Nationals (Loretta Lynn’s) shaft drive champion Thomas Covington of Vernon (Ala.). Another noteworthy performance in the Open Stock (4-8) class was by Cobra-mounted Joshua Cartwright. The Memphis native overcame a tough first moto to finish strong in the second moto (2nd) for fourth place overall.
Cobra would take four out of the top five spots in the 7-8 Stock Class, with a noteworthy performance coming from factory rider Nick Gaines (Ring Gold, Ga.) who rode with an injured leg that was later determined to be broken!
“I couldn’t be happier about the performance of our 2004 line of bikes,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Cobra Motorcycles. “Everybody at Cobra is real excited to see that we took right around 60-percent of all the top tens in the 50cc classes we raced at the first three Amateur Nationals – and that’s against some very fast kids and three other world-class motorcycle manufacturers. We’re looking forward to even more success in the coming months at races such at Ponca, Loretta Lynn’s and the Mini O’s – as well as local tracks all over the U.S.!”

Cobra Announces All New CM50

2004 Cobra CM50b Cobra Announces New ‘Re-Designed’ CM50
Cobra’s competition again at a loss as the Undisputed Champ of all mini cycles receives a bevy of improvements for 2004
ANAHEIM, Calif., (March 16, 2004) – Cobra Motorcycles announced today the introduction of its 2004 Cobra CM50 – the most successful high end race mini cycle of all time.
A continuation of the heritage that has won every single AMA National Championship in its class since the bike was first introduced in 1997 – an unprecedented feat in high end mini cycle competition – the ’04 Cobra CM50 is THE bike by which all other competition mini cycles will again be judged.
“The CM50 may be a small bike, but when you sit back and look at the amazing record that it has built there is little doubt that it’s the most dominant competition mini cycle ever,” said Sean Hilbert, President of Cobra Motorcycles. “For 2004 we’ve re-designed the bike from the ground up, a feat that goes to show just how serious we are about winning.”
Highlights of the improvements to the 2004 Cobra CM50 include:
Longer Travel Fork Cobra has added a whopping 1.5” of travel to the CM50s front fork for 2004 for class-leading performance.
Öhlins Rear Shock Complete with piggy-back reservoir, the CM now comes with a shock from the finest suspension company in the world. Improved geometry and longer travel compliment this premium damper. No other bike in this class will be able to touch the CM’s suspension performance.
New Intake System Cobra has created a best-in-class intake system for mini cycles consisting of a new airbox, new air filter and new intake boot. The conical air filter (with more surface area than anything in its class) resides deep in the air box for premium protection against mud and water ingestion. The large volume airbox and engineered air boot also offer improved performance through better breathing.
New Exhaust System Cobra designed an all new pipe and silencer for 2004 CM. Better fit, improved power output and a marked reduction of noise are the result.
Stronger Frame Improved gusseting will allow the little guys to jump to new heights in 2004.
Improved Ergonomics A more sculpted seat profile and improved rider positioning will make the rider feel right at home. In addition, the CM has new handlebars that have been re-designed to better fit smaller arms.
New Exhaust Pipe Improved fit, overall performance, and throttle response.
Updated Transmission Gears and Bearings Improved power transmission and durability.
“These are the most improvements we’ve made on the CM50 since it’s inception in ’97,” said Bud Maimone, founder of Cobra. “Our engineers have worked ‘round the clock in the R & D department and on the test track. The result is a bike that we strongly feel will again be untouchable in the 4-6 class this year.”
Cobra Motorcycle Manufacturing was founded in the early 1990’s to bring 50cc motocross bikes into a market that was asking for a race-ready product. A leader at the start line and the finish line, Cobra’s current offerings include the PW3-50, CM50, King Cobra 50 and the DC65. Riders on Cobra Motorcycles have consistently won the AMA Amateur National Championships since inception. Cobra is headquartered in Youngstown, Ohio.
